Our History

In 1942, Bert M. Ullrey & his son Burwell W. Ullrey co-founded Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Construction for the chapel began in November 1941 and Opened February 22, 1942. Bert Ullrey served as Sutter County Sheriff from 1930 to 1942. Burwell W. Ullrey served as Sutter County Coroner from 1942 to 1958.

In 1946 Walter Ullrey joined the family business as a funeral director & embalmer working until 2005.

In 1970, Burwell L. Ullrey joined the family business. He is the third generation of the Ullreys to operate the business. 

In 1981, Damon Ullrey joined the family business. He is the fourth generation of Ullreys to operate the business. He now serves as operating manager for the firm.
