Betty Kochi

Betty Kochi passed away on April 9, 2021, in Yuba City, at the age of 93. She was born 1928, in Biggs, California. During World War II Betty and her family were interned at the Tule Lake Relocation Center in Tule Lake, California. After the war she and her family returned to Yuba City, California. Betty would later move to San Francisco and take a job in the accounting department of Macys. In 1954 she married George Kochi and moved in Tudor, California to raise a family. While employed at the Saunders Ranch in Tudor, they took advantage of an opportunity to start their own canning tomato farm. Betty was employed with the Yuba City Unified School District for 23 years in food services. She prepared and distributed school lunches for Barry, Lincoln, and Lincrest elementary schools. She spent her springs and summers running the family tomato farm in Sutter County. She was an active member of the Marysville Buddhist Church. Betty is survived by her four sons, Mark (Susan) of Yuba City, Gregg (Debbie) of Elk Grove, Kahn of Yuba City, and Kent (Megumi) of Elk Grove; and three grandsons, Cameron, Derek, and Blake. She is proceeded in death by her husband, George Kochi; brother, Gus Tsuda; and sister, Mary Nosaka. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial services at the Marysville Buddhist Church to be announced in June of 2021.
