Carl Poteet Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carl Poteet of Yuba City passed away at Rideout Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the age of 91. He was born along with his twin brother, Charles, to Lillie and Leaman Poteet on January 19, 1931 at Wanette, Oklahoma. He, mom and dad, Charles, and sister Wanda moved to Rio Oso, California in 1946. Carl attended Browns Elementary School and then graduated from East Nicolaus High School in 1950. He attended one year at Yuba College. Carl joined the Air Force in 1951 and was sent to Korea where he served with the 18th Fighter Bomb Wing at Osan in 1953 (last year of the war). He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. He was assigned to the Intelligence Branch. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1955, he was employed by PG&E where he worked for 35 years, mostly in Personnel/Human Resources. He received his BS Degree in Business Administration from Sacramento State University while working full time. He retired from PG&E in 1990. He loved antique cars and restored 13, which were beautiful. He was a member of the Mid Valley Historical Auto Club. He also restored antique steamer trunks and became a master. His hobby was growing roses of which he had 50 tree roses that were always a beautiful sight. He was a long time member of the Northside Fitness Center. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his two daughters, Debbie Poteet and Diane Mayfield; his twin brother Charles; and his older brother Jessie Lee who died at the age of 23 as a result of World War II. Jessie Lee served in the U.S. Army and was in the "Battle of the Bulge" in Germany. Carl is survived by his sister Wanda and his wife Mary, who was the love of his life. He has four grandchildren, Robert Poteet, Melissa Mayfield, Holly Shelton, and Chad Jaycox. He raised Chad from the age of 6. He has two great-grandchildren, Aiden Jaycox and Naomi Poteet and has two nieces and one nephew; Pamela McGarry, Donna McAndrew (Poteet), and Jim Poteet; and sister-in-law, Sumiko Newman and brother-in-law, Ken Newman. Funeral Service will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City on March 22, 2022 at 11 a.m.
