October 11, 1949 - July 19, 2021
Rajinder Singh Chohan passed away July 19, 2021 surrounded by his family. Rajinder was born October 11, 1949 in Punjab India to Darshan and Gurbachan Chohan. Rajinder moved to Canada in 1972 and to the United States in 1973, where he met and married the love of his life Paramdeep Chohan in 1973. Just recently they celebrated their 48th anniversary together. Rajinder worked as a farm worker and in 1975 purchased his first peach orchard. Together Rajinder and Paramdeep grew their business into a diversified farming operation of almonds, peaches, prunes and walnuts. Rajinder was a family man and in 1978 they welcomed their first child Jatinder Chohan into the world followed by Baljinder in 1980 and Inderpaul in 1984. Rajinder and Paramdeep continued to grow their farming business and in 2006 they were awarded the very first Oberthier Memorial Quality Award given to a farmer in Northern California. They were honored with the award again every year from 2010 through 2016. Rajinder was on the board of directors for the Peach Association for 32 years stepping down due to illness in 2021. His willingness to help the community and fellow growers reached far and wide even outside the farm gate as he was always looking at the big picture to help the community and the association. He was also on the board for his Temple and many businesses including the Sikh Temple in Tierra Buena, FSA, NRCS and Garden Highway Water District. His passion for business covered not only agriculture but also real estate, packing and hauling ventures. In 2009 Jatinder and (Seema) made him a grandfather for the first time, Bishin Chohan. The love for his family was endless beyond words. Rajinder was a man of few words but showed his integrity through his actions. If someone needed help he was always there for them never expecting any kind of recognition for it. Rajinder never met a stranger. He treated everyone as a friend and family. Everyone knew him as the "man with the beautiful green eyes". He was honest, hardworking and a pillar of the community. He has touched so many lives in his lifetime. His favorite place to just sit and drink a cup of tea with friends and family was the Star of India. Rajinder was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St., Yuba City, followed by lunch and prayer at the Sikh Temple located at 2468 Tierra Buena Rd., Yuba City.
